Christchurch, New Zealand

Hi, I'm Kyla :)

I'm a digital designer by trade, based in Christchurch, New Zealand.

This whole thing started on a long trip through the UK, Holland, Italy, and Greece. I kept a running list of moments I didn't want to forget, small ones mostly, the kind you don't post about but never quite stop thinking of.

When I got home, I didn't have a job lined up, and I definitely didn't have much money. But what kept nagging at me wasn't really about travel at all. It was about connection.

It's become so rare to feel truly present with something, or someone. How we're all reachable every second of every day, and somehow still feel a little disconnected because of it.

Nobody gets real mail anymore. So there's something quietly special about opening your mailbox and finding an actual letter waiting there, just for you. Not an email, not a notification, an envelope, with your name on it, and someone on the other end who actually took the time.

That's what Letters from Afar is really about. Not the destinations, though I love sharing those. It's about giving someone a small, happy surprise in their day. A reason to put the phone down for five minutes, feel something real, and maybe even smile at the mailbox for once.

I write every letter myself, illustrate every postcard, notecard and bookmark by hand, and pack every envelope with that feeling in mind. I started this with no job and no money, just a real belief that a little handwritten happiness still matters.
I'm so glad you're here for it.💛
